Speaking & organizational consulting

I speak about Veterans, trauma, tobacco, opioids, and pain.

My work is with Veterans, clinicians, and the organizations that serve them. I speak about trauma, tobacco, opioids, and pain because these issues often show up together, even when our systems treat them separately.

The work

Exploring trauma, tobacco, opioids, and harm reduction—and how they affect Veterans and other populations.

Veterans and trauma

Military service changes the context. I help audiences think about trauma, readjustment, identity, and why Veterans may approach care differently.

Tobacco harm reduction

The aim is to reduce the disease caused by smoking. That requires honest language about the very large difference in risk between burning tobacco and using nicotine without smoke. E-cigarettes and nicotine pouches provide nicotine without the harms of combustion.

Opioids, trauma, and pain

An exploration of the complex interplay among opioid use, misuse, addiction, and other conditions affecting Veterans and other populations. This includes overdose, chronic pain, substance use treatment, and the ways trauma can complicate all three. I use current clinical and public-health guidance.

Presentations

I speak at conferences, grand rounds, agencies, and community events. We start with the audience and the question they need to answer.

Staff workshops

Workshops give clinical and veteran-serving teams time to work through cases, language, and real points of disagreement. They are discussion-based, not canned lectures.

Organizational consulting

I review veteran-facing education and public language for clinical accuracy, useful distinctions, and claims that go further than the evidence.
